Michael D. Arena is an associate attorney at Cook Craig & Francuzenko, PLLC. His practice focuses on commercial and business litigation, civil rights law, employment law, and all stages of general civil litigation. Mr. Arena is licensed to practice in the Commonwealth of Virginia as well as the District of Columbia.
Mr. Arena obtained his undergraduate degree in political science from the State University of New York at Geneseo, where he graduated summa cum laude and was inducted into the Phi Beta Kappa honor society. Following his move from New York to Virginia, Mr. Arena received his Juris Doctor degree from William and Mary Law School.
After law school, Mr. Arena and his family resided in the Tidewater region of Virginia. He began his legal career with a regional civil litigation defense firm where he had clerked throughout law school. Desiring to build his practice closer to the Washington metropolitan area, Mr. Arena relocated to Northern Virginia.
Mr. Arena has represented health care professionals, corporations, individuals, and insurers in a diverse assortment of complex medical malpractice, products liability, personal injury, and commercial matters in both state and federal courts. Mr. Arena has also gained significant litigation experience defending local and national employers in workers’ compensation and employer liability matters throughout the Commonwealth. Additionally, Mr. Arena devotes a substantial portion of his practice to the defense of Constitutional Officers and Regional Jails in civil rights actions brought under 42 U.S. Code § 1983.
Mr. Arena is a member of the Virginia Bar Association Labor and Employment Section as well as the Fairfax Bar Association.
